Books are the treasured wealth of the world and the fit inheritance of generations and nations. Books, the oldest and the best, stand naturally and rightfully on the shelves of every cottage. They have no cause of their own to plead, but while they enlighten and sustain the reader his common sense will not refuse them. Their authors are a natural and irresistible aristocracy in every society, and, more than kings or emperors, exert an influence on mankind.” -Henry David Thoreau, Walden.
Learning Today… Leading Tomorrow
At Washington School we honor and actively practice the Thought -Based Learning (TBL) methodology.
Students will acquire the scientific, anthropological and academic skills needed to integrate into a competitive and progressive society. Our students will be prepared with deeper, more meaningful knowledge where the students gain capabilities in a variety of fundamental skills, such as digital fluidity, critical thinking.
Our teachers are certified and trained in the advances in Cognitive Neuroscience, where the innovative learning and teaching methods are applied in the classroom, elevating students to reach their full potential as leaders of the future. These methods are geared towards Project-Based Learning (PBL), Solution-Based Learning (SBL), and most recently innovated, Challenge-Based Learning (CBL) and Creative Arts-Based Learning (ABL).
The main figure of thinking-based learning is derived from Robert Swartz , a philosopher, professor and researcher, responsible for the Center for Teaching Thinking Organization. “Swartz defends that critical and creative thinking should be exercised and worked within the framework of curriculum content,” rather than memorization.
The Advantages of Solution -Based Learning (SBL)
As the teacher navigates the classroom, though facilitating an environment where collaboration and tactical resources are used. The children are encouraged to assimilate curiosity and motivation through developing their own high-level potential of reasoning and critical thinking. Therefore, when faced with challenges, they will arrive to new conclusions with long term knowledgeable competencies.
The Advantages of Project-Based Learning (PBL)
The projects are aimed at achieving meaningful learning experiences, peer solidarity and an effective relationship within a supportive environment, which promotes the students to demonstrate a true understanding of the concepts with a sense healthy self-confidence.
Our comprehension projects move students to research, evaluate and use information, through interactive hands-on experience, based on problem identification, trial and error and arriving to compacted solutions, inside and outside the classroom.
The Advantages of Collaborative- Based Learning (CBL)
Through the well-defined assigned roles within their team networks, students work in small groups with motivating responsibilities and face classroom activities where the necessary connections are made to observe learning situations, discuss alternative solutions, and develop a thoughtful critical mindset. These assigned roles are not only important to grasping the learned concepts and completing the assignments, but they will also achieve vital social skills for teamwork, leadership and healthy emotional assurance.
